The above pictures show a 1980's British made Sidehack. I purchased this from the rider in the picture (Lee Firmin) of Woodham Warriors BMX Club (UK) back in approx 1985.
My recent interest in racing at Braintree Bullets Race track (UK), got me thinking about Sidehack Racing.....
Could we get them back on the track in the UK?
I bugged Lee Firmin for any old sidehack pictures and spent months searching the web for Sidehack designs, I even spent many nights unsuccessfully getting out bidded on 'Gary Little John Sidehacks' (The No.1 in old school hacks).
Finally I found a guy that could make me a hack, but it wasn't financially feasible as they would need shipping from the USA. With that I took my old school Mongoose Motomag and began to make my template from the pictures of my old hack.
The template was a wood crate and copper pipe (Yes copper pipe). The copper pipe was easy to bend and simple to solder together.
Once the shape was created I took the finished template to my local machine shop (Thanks to M+S Precision Engineers and Ace Sheet Metal).
